Following a ceremony held at the Sorbonne University on January 30th, 2008, a reception was held on January 31st for the 243 awarded participants at the Elysee palace in Paris, France. The French president Nicolas Sarkozy honored 12 awardees, including Sandrine Viollet by presenting them with their medals. Below are some excerpts from the president’s speech given during the ceremony: “...there are two forms of intelligence, two forms of knowledge; academic knowledge, and the knowledge of ones hands. There is no reason to say that the knowledge of the hand is any less noble than academic knowledge, or less able to create richness and well being... ...what counts is the pursuit of excellence. Whether it is academic or by hand, it takes the same amount of time to reach excellence... ...I imagine that to arrive here, to obtain the distinction of “One of the best craftsmen in France” you have worked very hard. You did not only prove your talent, you have proven your capacity of concentration, your tenacity and your perseverance. You have shown that only hard work makes it possible to transform a project into a masterpiece...” Highslide JS Highslide JS
