“Un des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France” “One of the best Craftsman in France” ....has been taking place every 3 years since 1924 to honor the best craftsmen in France from over 180 different trades. This year almost 4000 candidates registered for the competition, with 243 winning the title, including 41 women. For the first time the technique of straw marquetry was included in the contest. A wood block set consisting of 24 cubes was given to each participant along with a different theme for each side to be covered with straw marquetry. It took Sandrine over 1500 hours to complete the set. She created more than 100 custom colors to achieve the desired effects, showing all the possibilities and potential the straw has to offer. A panel of experts then judged each of the projects for their design, originality and their interpretation of the subjects.
